EMS celebrates family engagement through insightful school visits

At EMS, “parents as partners” is a foundational value we actively embrace. We recognize that a family’s positive connection to our school significantly increases the likelihood of a child’s success.

By hosting family visits this fall, our Chilton House and Little School divisions strengthen crucial bonds and provide parents with an enriching insight into our dynamic educational environment. During these visits, parents had the chance to spend a morning with their children, engaging directly in classroom activities and experiences.

In the Little School, our Head of School, Marek Beck, Ph.D., led a parent education workshop on the science of reading. This interactive session not only defined the “science of reading” but also explored the features of effective literacy instruction, demonstrating how our curriculum aligns with these best practices. Parents could see the intentional progression of these practices, tailored to be developmentally appropriate from Chilton House through Little School to Morrow House.

At Chilton House, our early learning division, family days are more than events; they are a cornerstone of our community-building efforts. These occasions are vital in our collaborative education approach, offering parents a chance to fully engage in the learning process and deepen their understanding of our instructional methods and their impacts.

The showcasing of children’s hard work during these visits strengthens familial bonds and significantly enhances the sense of community within Chilton House. In a world where time is a precious commodity, and connections are often transient, these events offer a priceless opportunity for families to unite and celebrate their children’s accomplishments. Head of Early Learning Lauren Mactas eloquently states, “Inviting families into our classrooms is not just a kind gesture. It’s a deliberate strategy to foster an environment where collaboration and understanding thrive.”

Our recent family events, varied and engaging, are a testament to our commitment to enhancing community spirit and parent involvement. Looking forward, Morrow House will be inviting families to their Leadership Lab events, which will be taking place in January and February.

We are excited to continue this journey, building on the foundation of trust and partnership these family days have nurtured. We remain committed to this shared path of educational excellence and community building as we move ahead.

EMS prepares students for an impressive range of top-tier secondary schools.

Our students cultivate the ability to learn, think, explore, empathize, and lead. They graduate with the ability, mindset, and competencies to navigate a global world and are well-prepared to face an unknowable future.

Accustomed to a challenging academic environment, EMS students welcome the demands of competitive secondary schools and are often placed in advanced sections where they perform very well.
