Welcome from Dr. Fonseca

Maureen Fonseca, a smiling caucasian woman with light brown hair, wearing a dark blue suit with large buttons

What a wonderful school year we’ve had, and what pride I hope each of you has in the challenges we’ve overcome! As I reflect on these past many months, I am simply in awe of all that we have accomplished together.

I have such gratitude for our community, from our students who showed such great reliance and adaptability as we all embraced different ways of learning and communicating, to the brilliant ingenuity of our faculty and staff, who relied on their creativity to innovate and discover ways of teaching and staying connected with all our wonderful children and their families. Our families have been so patient and supportive as we’ve made our way through the year, coming up with new ways to collaborate and maintain a close feeling of community even as we remained physically apart. I especially want to thank the parents on our Medical and Dental Advisory Committee, on whom we relied for guidance and counsel throughout the year, and our faculty and staff on the Health and Safety Team, and our amazing Facilities and Maintenance Team. All worked tirelessly to help us continue running the school throughout the pandemic, helping us so brilliantly succeed and accomplish what so many other schools could not, remaining open full-time throughout the year.

While we were very successful in maintaining the health and safety of our community and kept our average COVID-19 positivity rate below one percent throughout the entire year — which was truly an effort requiring everyone’s participation and vigilance — it felt like the clouds cleared and the sun finally returned this spring as we were able to see the return of a number of beloved EMS traditions. Some traditions, like Field Day, not only returned but grew! While our students took to Community Field, our alumni also joined in the fun, logging their exercise minutes to help their team win the inaugural Virtual Alumni Field Day. Keep reading to learn how it turned out!

We then ended the year on a high note, finally and joyously able to gather together in person to honor and celebrate our graduates, wishing them the best as they prepare for secondary school, knowing that, although they leave our campus, they remain part of the EMS family forever.

Through trying times and adversity, we uncover what’s most important to us — and at EMS, we treasure and thank you for the relationships and connections forged throughout our community.

As we wrap up this year of 90th-anniversary celebrations, we can’t help but think of the 90 years to come. We rely on each of you to help us shape the school’s future, and we deeply value your voice. You’ve helped us grow from strength to strength this year, and I ask you to remain just as involved going forward. Each of you has my most sincere gratitude for what you’ve given to us all.

Warm Regards,

Maureen Fonseca

There's No Better Time to Support Your Child's Education

Every time you donate to one of Elisabeth Morrow's dedicated funds, you help enrich the daily experiences of our community on campus. STEAM spaces are improved, library catalogues expanded, scholarships are funded, and teachers are hired. Every day, you can see the impact your generous donations have on campus.

EMS prepares students for an impressive range of top-tier secondary schools.

Our students cultivate the ability to learn, think, explore, empathize, and lead. They graduate with the ability, mindset, and competencies to navigate a global world and are well-prepared to face an unknowable future.

Accustomed to a challenging academic environment, EMS students welcome the demands of competitive secondary schools and are often placed in advanced sections where they perform very well.
