Creative ideas for reusing and recycling greeting cards
Thinking of more eco-friendly ways to recycle your greeting cards without going to a landfill? With these tips, you’ll be able to waste less and get more use from their designs. Here are some ideas on how to reuse, repurpose, and recycle those cards for an environmentally-friendly start to the new year.
NEW YEAR’S EVE DECORATIONS
Cut them up, paint them, and glue pieces together to make decorations for your New Year’s Eve celebrations.
PLACE SETTINGS
Upcycle your cards into table place settings. Simply cut the cards into squares, rectangles, or a shape of your choice, then glue or tape them together.
GIFT BOXES
Greeting cards can also be turned into effective gift boxes. Cut the original cards into pieces and glue or sew them together for one-of-a-kind little boxes.
BOOKMARKS
Use your old greeting cards to make a selection of customized bookmarks. This way, you will never run out and always have one at hand to pop inside the next book you read.
CRAFT PROJECTS:
Using old greeting cards for fun craft projects is a clever way to keep children entertained over the holidays. You could either cut them up to make new cards or string them together to create decorations to hang around the house.
COMPOST OR RECYCLE
If you don’t want to hang on to them, compost or recycle greeting cards instead of sending them to the landfill.
Remember, cards that are not 100% paper cannot be composted or recycled. Instead, you may try one of the upcycling methods above.
