Admissions Process

For which program or grade are you applying?

Before beginning your application for a specific program or grade, please ensure that your child will be of qualifying age by September 30 in their anticipated year of entry.

Apply

When you are ready to begin, please visit Ravenna and click on the “Apply to School” button. Ravenna will prompt you to create an account and student profile.

After submitting your application, you will complete the following requirements in Ravenna:

Parent Questionnaire:
The Parent Questionnaire helps the Admissions Committee get to know your child and your family beyond the application. Your responses provide insight into your child’s interests, personality, strengths, your family’s traditions and values, and your hopes for your child’s educational journey. This information also allows us to personalize your admissions experience and ensure we address the questions and priorities that matter most to your family throughout the process.

Confidential Teacher Recommendation:
You will be asked to provide the name and email address of your child’s current teacher. Ravenna will securely send a recommendation form directly to the teacher, allowing them to submit their recommendation confidentially.

If your child has not previously attended school, a teacher recommendation is not required.

All application materials, including the application, all required admissions steps, and supporting forms, must be completed by Friday, Jan. 8, 2027.

Applicants who qualify for Early Notification (siblings of current or former students, legacies, and children of current faculty or staff) must submit the application and complete all required admissions steps and supporting forms by 12 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2026.

Following the application and admission decision deadlines, families interested in applying are invited to contact the Office of Admissions. Late applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to the school’s admissions timeline and enrollment considerations.

Tour

After submitting an application through Ravenna, families may schedule a school tour directly through the Ravenna portal.

Families who would like to visit The Elisabeth Morrow School before submitting an application are warmly invited to complete our inquiry form to request a tour.

Applicant Screening

Once an application is received, parents may return to Ravenna beginning Oct. 1 to self-schedule for the applicant screening. Sessions will be in small groups, lasting approximately 45 minutes. Only one caregiver per child may attend. During this time, children will participate in age-appropriate activities with the members of the EMS team.

Applicant screenings provide our admissions team with an opportunity to get to know your child in a warm, engaging school setting. Through age-appropriate activities, we observe how your child interacts with peers and adults, explores new materials, and approaches a new environment. These observations help us better understand your child’s unique personality, interests, and developmental readiness.

We recognize that young children may respond differently in unfamiliar settings, and that no single interaction defines a child. Our admissions team considers each screening thoughtfully and within the context of the child’s overall application.

Screenings will take place in January 2027.

Family Interview & Parent Questionnaire

Informal and conversational, the family interview allows us to better understand your goals for your child’s education and to answer your questions.

Once all other steps of the application are complete, the family interview scheduler will automatically become available in the application. We ask that all parents or legal guardians participate in the family interview.

The Parent Questionnaire helps the Admissions Committee get to know your child and family, including your child’s interests, your family’s values and traditions, and your hopes for your child’s educational experience. It is submitted separately from the application.

Confidential Teacher Recommendation*

You will be asked to provide the name and email address of your child’s current teacher so we may seamlessly request and receive their recommendation through Ravenna’s teacher recommendation form. *If your child has not previously attended school, you are not required to complete this step.

Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or Secondary School Admission Test

Applicants to Grades 5 through 8 are required to take either the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT), and submit their official scores to EMS. Other forms of standardized testing may also be accepted. For questions about testing requirements or acceptable alternatives, please contact the Office of Admissions.

Applicant Visit and Interview

Applicants who complete the previous steps will be invited to spend a half day on campus with students in their current grade. During the visit, applicants will experience a typical day at EMS, participate in classroom activities, and meet with a member of the Morrow House faculty for an interview. The interview provides an opportunity for us to get to know each applicant and learn more about their academic interests, experiences, and interests beyond the classroom. Additional details about the visit will be shared with families when the appointment is scheduled.

Tuition Assistance (Optional)

Applying for Tuition Assistance

Admission and tuition assistance decisions are made independently, but the application processes occur simultaneously.

After submitting your application for admission through Ravenna, families seeking tuition assistance should complete the Clarity tuition assistance application. Clarity provides a secure, streamlined, and family-friendly experience, allowing families to complete one application that can be shared with multiple participating schools.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to submit supporting documentation, including:

  • A recent pay stub for each employed household member
  • Documentation of any additional monthly or annual income
  • Additional financial documentation, if requested, based on your family’s circumstances

Important Dates

Sept. 1, 2026: The Clarity tuition assistance application becomes available.

Jan. 8, 2027: Priority deadline to submit the Clarity application and all required supporting documentation. Applications may be submitted before tax returns are completed.

April 15, 2027: Final prior-year tax documentation must be submitted through Clarity.

Applications received after the priority deadline will be considered on an individual basis and are subject to the availability of tuition assistance funds.

Families who do not receive tuition assistance during their child’s initial year of enrollment are generally asked to wait two years before reapplying, as tuition assistance funds are allocated thoughtfully over multiple years. We recognize that financial circumstances can change unexpectedly, and exceptions may be considered in cases of significant hardship or other substantial changes in a family’s financial situation.
