Three eighth-grade students from our school were each awarded a Silver Key for their artwork submitted to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Silver Key winners are recognized for their stand-out pieces of art submitted to regional programs that demonstrate exceptional ability. One seventh grader received honorable mentions for two photography pieces.

Created almost 100 years ago, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s largest, longest-running, and most prestigious visual and literary arts program. The organization has recognized the creative promise of individuals like Andy Warhol, Kay WalkingStick, Sylvia Plath, Stephen King, Richard Avedon, and Zac Posen.

In 2020, a jury of professional artists, curators, and arts educators spent more than 30 hours reviewing 3,570 works of art submitted by 1,330 individual student artists (in grades 7-12) from across northern New Jersey.
