Chilton House is excited to announce several enhancements for the 2024-2025 academic year, including four new faculty members, formal implementation of the Wit & Wisdom language arts program for kindergarten, expanded Sounds in Motion approach to early literacy for 3s/4s, a strengthened Student Success Team, and continued growth of Seedlings and our Partnership Series. We are also pleased to be offering multiple opportunities over the course of the year for families to join their children on campus for authentic learning experiences.

Programmatic Enhancements for Students

Under the leadership of Director of Student Success Services Sybille Bruun Moss, Ph.D., expanded support for students, faculty, and families has yielded powerful conversations about promoting student achievement and intellectual growth in all students.

Wit & wisdom For Kindergarten

Backed by the Science of Reading, Wit & Wisdom joins its aligned instructional partners Fundations and Geodes to provide a rich, powerful, and well-rounded literacy program. Wit & Wisdom promotes the development of reading, writing, and communication skills along with enhanced vocabulary and comprehension. Coupled with Fundations, a multi-sensory phonological awareness program, and Geodes, an engaging, non-fiction decodable reader library, kindergarten students are immersed in a language and literacy experience that is engaging and rigorous and prepares them for the expectations of first grade.

Sounds in Motion for 3s/4s

Sounds in Motion is designed to develop listening skills in young children, which in turn helps to improve articulation, and vocabulary skills, auditory memory, phonemic awareness, and early literacy. While some aspects of the Sounds in Motion approach have been previously integrated, our 3s/4s teachers have now fully implemented this method after attending a workshop at Bank Street College of Education. This approach prepares our students for kindergarten expectations.

Programmatic Enhancements for Families

CHILTON HOUSE VISITING DAYS

This allows for more opportunities for families to experience the kind of authentic learning and powerful experiences in the classroom that prepare children to be lifelong learners and resilient and motivated human beings. In addition to individual family visits to celebrate family cultures, traditions, and birthdays, families also visit for the Spooky Sing-Along, classroom visiting days, community service days, Music and Muffins, and more.

The Partnership Series

To strengthen the school-family partnership, Chilton House is continuing “The Partnership Series,” a monthly in-person opportunity for families to learn from one another and experts about topics that they face as caregivers of young children. Included this year was a workshop with our Student Success Team. They shared insights and expectations for young children in the context of speech and language, sensory and fine motor, and social and emotional development.
