Welcome Our New Director of Secondary School Placement

Jed Silverstein

Jed Silverstein, Ph.D., joins our team

Over the past two decades, Jed Silverstein, Ph.D., has worked at some of the most highly selective independent schools in the country, including Riverdale Country School in New York City, Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I., and the Latin School of Chicago. He comes to us, most recently, from The Derryfield School in Manchester, N.H., where he served as the upper school head. Among his numerous responsibilities there, he taught courses in history — a passion he will continue to nurture at EMS while teaching eighth-grade history.

Silverstein will work closely with Assistant Head of Middle School Gerard Allen, Dean of Student Life, ensuring that our families are well supported during their child’s transition from middle school to secondary school.

“Secondary school placement is a partnership between the school and the family,” says Silverstein. “Families are the experts in who their child is and what their happiness looks like. EMS has extensive knowledge of public, day, and boarding schools where its students have attended and flourished. In the end, families are in the driver’s seat during the secondary school placement process, but EMS is there to offer a hand on the steering wheel.”

Parents and caregivers of rising eighth-graders received an invitation to a Zoom call with Silverstein over the summer where everyone got to know each other and kickstart the secondary school process.

There's No Better Time to Support Your Child's Education

Every time you donate to one of Elisabeth Morrow's dedicated funds, you help enrich the daily experiences of our community on campus. STEAM spaces are improved, library catalogues expanded, scholarships are funded, and teachers are hired. Every day, you can see the impact your generous donations have on campus.

EMS prepares students for an impressive range of top-tier secondary schools.

Our students cultivate the ability to learn, think, explore, empathize, and lead. They graduate with the ability, mindset, and competencies to navigate a global world and are well-prepared to face an unknowable future.

Accustomed to a challenging academic environment, EMS students welcome the demands of competitive secondary schools and are often placed in advanced sections where they perform very well.

YOUR CHILD WOULD THRIVE AT EMS. SCHEDULE A TIME TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT JOINING OUR COMMUNITY.
