Our biannual International Food Festival celebrates our community’s diverse cultural background by sharing a love we all have in common – food!
And there was plenty of it to go around when the event, in its 13th year, took place on February 8, 2020 in the Peter Lawrence Gymkhana.
Countries and regions represented included North America, Japan, Korea, Israel, the Middle East, Armenia, Turkey, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, China, South East Asia, India, Ireland, England, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Greece, and other European countries.
“Thank you to all who attended the International Food Festival and made it such a success,” says Parents Association President Melanie Weinraub. “The turnout was tremendous and we hope you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves.”
Another big thank you goes out to the country chairs and their teams, “who put so much work into creating the menus and beautifully decorating their spaces,” adds Weinraub. “And a special shout out to co-chairs of the event – Gia Alvarez, Michael Daly, Jeannie Naughton Daly, Yujie Dong, Michele Ross, Joan Toro-Herrera, and Monica Warren – whose hard work over the past three months really paid off.”
To make the event more eco-friendly, compostable plates were used, linen tablecloths covered the tables, and not one single-use plastic bottle of water was available. The event amassed 19 bins full of compostable waste, equalling 393.5 pounds!
Our next International Food Festival will take place in 2022.
