Fifth and sixth grade students transported audiences to the Arabian desert kingdom of Agrabah for the year’s musical, “Aladdin Jr.,” that took place Thursday, January 30 and Friday, January 31 in the Cohen Center.
This one-act, 11-scene musical included scenes from the popular animated film in which it is based. Students sang and danced to notable songs like “Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World.”
They even received a special message from Tony-award winning actor James Monroe Iglehart, who originated the role of the Genie on Broadway’s “Aladdin.”
“Aladdin is a fun story about acceptance and being yourself,” says Alex Diaz, theater teacher. “It also allows for a mass number of students to participate. This production had the most number of students involved than any other musical theater production at our school. There were 41 cast members and 22 stage crew members. It was a blast!”
