Middle School Unfiltered: Raising Happy, Healthy, Digitally Savvy Kids
April 8 @ 12:00 pm
The digital world is not just a playground — it is the “real world” where our children learn, socialize, and grow. From the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence to the social complexities of TikTok, the middle school years present a landscape that changes faster than any traditional parenting manual. How do we mentor our children to be safe and savvy without losing our own peace of mind?
Join Marek Beck, Ph.D., head of school, and Samantha Morra, middle school technology integrator and computer science teacher, at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, for a candid, interactive conversation. This session moves beyond “screen time” limits to focus on digital citizenship, mentorship, and the essential partnership between school and home.
The conversation will explore:
- The Reality of the “Internet Minute”: Navigating a world where technology moves faster than ever and parents no longer have a “when I was your age” reference point.
- The 4 C’s of Digital Citizenship: How we move beyond rules to teach courtesy, consideration, cooperation, and compassion in a digital space.
- Transformation vs. Distraction: A look at how technology transforms the classroom and how to mirror those healthy habits at home.
- Co-creating Solutions: Why “pulling the plug” often backfires, and how to build boundaries using your wisdom and their creativity.
- The Parent Toolkit: Practical resources, including the AAP Family Media Plan and Common Sense Media, to help you stay current and confident.
This is a conversation, not a lecture. We invite you to bring your coffee, unmute your microphone, and join Dr. Beck and Mrs. Morra as we discuss how to raise children who are as kind and savvy online as they are in person.
